A “mysterious” blast yesterday tore through the Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse II District of Abuja.The blast which occurred at barely a few minutes after midnight set two jeeps and two other cars ablaze but did not have any major impact on the buildings in the area.

The explosive device was planted under a tree at the front of Hanan Plaza just opposite Kryxtal Lounge, a night club, in the area. The plaza shares a fence with the headquar-ters of Etisalat mobile network in Abuja.

Manager of the Lounge, Alex Toor, dismissed insinuations that the explosive was planted in his club. He said although the club was in session at the time of the explosion, there was no indication that his club was the target.“I am not a bomb expert but from what happened here, I do not think it is a bomb blast”, he our source.

A resident of the area, Laide Oshinowo, said the loud bang which was heard at about past midnight shook his building even as his electronics immediately stopped working.

“The blast shook my room and my TV stopped working. It has not worked since then,” he said.

Confirming the incident, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderenle Shina-ba, said no one died in the incident.

He stated that: “What happened at this spot you are seeing is that a vehicle parked and some other ve-hicles parked and another vehicle was just moving on the highway and threw an object at the vehicles that were parked.

“The next we heard was a sound. It was not a very serious issue, no life was lost and nobody was injured,’’ he said.

Shinaba did not say the type of explosive used and added: “I am not a bomb expert.”

He, however, said that men of the ``Explosive Ordnance Department’’ of the police had commenced investigation into the matter.

The commissioner said the investigation would prove the type of explosive used and the motive of those behind the explosion, adding that no arrest had been made.

He assured residents of FCT that their security was guaranteed.

Although, field workers of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were on ground, they declined speaking on record.

One of them, however, clarified that there was no casualty recorded and that security operatives had towed the affected vehicles away.

Only on Friday, the Zone 5 area of Wuse District was hurriedly deserted and offices and commercial complexes evacuated over fears that an Improvised Explosive Device had been planted around the area.

Port Harcourt Nigeria; May 2012: The 4th of May, 2012 was an unforgettable day for the students of the University of Port Harcourt as they were given non-stop entertainment by top Nigerian artistes during the Etisalat cliqfest powered by easycliq.

With performances from artistes such as Dj zeez, Wande Coal, Rayce, Terry G, Chuddy k and Joe Blue, first runner-up in the just concluded Nigerian Idol II, the students couldn't get enough of the fun and excitement.

An outstanding moment was during Wande Coal's performance as he wowed the students with a medley of his most popular songs and got them singing and dancing along to his tune. Next was Terry G, who is known for his wild style of music who came on strong too as he dished out his songs, making the crowd hunger for more. Chuddy K, Dj Zeez, Rayce and Joe Blue also had their moments of shine with the students.

But the students were not the only ones present at the show, as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bene Willie Abbey and the Dean of Students Affair, Prof. Mathew Wegwu were also there to watch the popular acts strut their stuff.

Speaking later, Prof. Abbey thanked Etisalat Nigeria for bringing Cliqfest to the school. She also commended the brand for introducing the Easycliq package to the Nigerian market, describing it as the most youth-oriented product in the telecom market. She encouraged the students to utilize what they had learnt during the seminar organised by Etisalat by putting them to good use to enable them improve their wellbeing.

An overtly excited Students' Union President, Owhorkire Rhino echoed similar sentiments, and thanked Etisalat for bringing the Cliqfest train to the school.  According to him, the university had never had such a gathering of celebrities.

The high point of the day was a raffle draw in which Ezinma Fabulous, a 400-level student, won the star prize of a Hyundai i-10, in a raffle draw, courtesy Etisalat’s Easycliq. Several other students also won laptops, Blackberry phones, dual sim phones, recharge cards, and many branded items. There was also a football match with each team member wearing jerseys with the names of Etisalat’s products and services emblazoned at their backs.

ABILITY IN CHALLENGES

Even though he did not make the top twelve not to talk of winning this year`s Nigerian Idol TV Music Reality Show competition which has just ended and was won by Mercy Chinwo, Sylva Isaiah still remains one of the greatest discoveries of this year`s Idol competiton. Born into a polygamous family of ten children of which seven died, Sylva whose stage name is Sil Kelly is one of the three children left of the ten and unfortunately, at seven he became crippled and confined to the wheel chair. Despite this challenge, Sil has refused his talent to be killed. He enrolled to participate in 2011/2012 Nigerian Idol season 2 where he`s was one of the top thirty and even though he didn`t win the competition, his talent was showcased and now his album titled NOBODY which he wrote will be in the market in the next two months. Sil his doing the track NOBODY with this year`s top three Idol contestants namely Mercy Chinwo, Joseph Anthony Ekpo aka Joe Blue and the loverboy himself Stephen Onochie. Sil said that he`s grateful to etisalat Nigeria and Peter Bode the producer and director of Nigerian Idol for helping him realise his dream of recording his album titled NOBODY. The title NOBODY came from his personal experience. According to him, in his travail in life NOBODY was there for him and that was where the title of the album came from. NIGERIAN IDOL SEASON 2: LYNDA GIAMI EVICTED.

Henceforth, only one contestant in the Nigerian Idol show sponsored by etisalat will be evicted out of the TV reality music show for the next few weeks. This week no doubt is not a good one for Lynda Giami who was evicted. Lynda, according to Jeffrey Daniels, who is one of the Judges, is unstable. According to him, Lynda does well sometimes and other times she doesn`t. Nevertheless, what Jeffrey thinks does not matter, because the viewers who are the voters have the final say.
