I got a message on my mail that I should come and collect my tag which stands as my accreditation to cover the 8th AMAA awards which was held at Eko Hotels at Victoria Island in Lagos Nigeria on April 22, 2012. They were specific about accreditation time which they fixed for the hours of 2pm-4pm. I got there for 3pm and accreditation took no time. For me, that was a good start. I began to write a script in my heart on the kinds of pictures to tell the AMAA stories with. After a long wait, red carpet pictures started, as a photo-journalist that was not my interest, as the awards and other sights other than red carpet pictures was my interest but as the red carpet photo shoot dragged, I decided to join other photographers to take some red carpet pictures not knowing that was the only pictures my accrediation could get me. After the long session of the red carpet photo shoot, I decided to go inside with three other photo-journalists namely Sunday Alamba from Associated Press AP, Akintunde who works with Reuters and Kunle Ajayi of Daily Independent. As were tried to enter the hall where the event was to take place, we were told that cameras were not allowed in the place. Why? We asked, and the security men told us that, that was the order from above then I, Tunde and Kunle then drove off in Tunde`s car. As we almost got to Maryland, the spokesperson of AMAA Tope Ajayi, called Kunle if he could come to the entrance of the hall so that he could help me in. The three of us decided not to go back because we felt it was late (that should be after 11pm in the night) and we believed that by the time we get there they might have done important things. That was how I could not get the AMAA awards ceremony but we can make do of some red carpet pictures.
